WAHB001 Kick Start Your Internet BusinessSummaryA 10-session course that takes you step-by-step through the process of getting your home based Internet business up and running. IntroductionStarting home based Internet businesses can be exciting… you’ve probably heard of all the Internet marketing “gurus” who work from home on line, making millions of dollars in their basements… but it can also be daunting. Although the start-up costs can be much lower – and the rewards potentially higher – than the costs and rewards associated with many other kinds of business… there is sooo much to learn! Not just what to sell… but how to sell it… and how to promote it… And how to actually make money. And what do “search engine optimization”, “name squeeze” pages, “affiliate programs”, “continuity” and all the other terms Internet marketers bandy around mean anyway? Even when you understand the terminology, how do you put it all together? Seems like some Internet marketing guru is coming out with a new and better way of doing business on the Internet every other week. So, is it any surprise that you may end up treading water months – even years – after first typing in “work home business internet online” in your favorite search engine and discovering Internet marketing? Well, if you don’t want to tread water anymore, and want to join those who are making excellent incomes with their home based internet businesses, this Kick Start Your Internet Business course will help you get there. You see, in this course, we really will kick start your Internet business! In fact, you’ll have no choice. Over the next 10 weeks or so, you’ll learn each fundamental “piece” of your Internet business “puzzle” and where to put it. No hype, no gimmicks and no tricks: just solid strategies, systems and processes for creating a sustainable moneymaking business that satisfies your interests and skills, and grows with you. But this won’t be theoretical learning – you’ll learn by doing and getting helpful feedback. At the end of each session, you’ll be given an optional assignment – an assignment that forms one of the essential components of all successfull home based internet businesses. Once you complete and submit the assignment, you’ll get feedback and comments on whether you’re on track or need to do some further work. And as you complete each assignment and move through the sessions, your Internet business will take shape… Of course, each assignment is completely optional. If you don’t feel the need to do a particular assignment, or just don’t have the time, you can skip it or do it later, and freely move onto the next session. This course is only for those determined to succeed in their home based Internet businesses. The pace is fast and furious, and you’ll need to devote several – in some cases quite a few – hours to each session (if you do the assignment). Does that sound like a lot? It shouldn’t: we’re helping you build a business here, not some “work from home on line” hobby. You need to be focused and committed to achieve anything worthwhile! And the reward? Your Internet business up and running in as little as 10 weeks… or even sooner depending on how fast you whiz through the sessions! Course OutlineSession 1: Personal VisionWe’ll kick of the course by discussing your Personal Vision. It’s imperative that, before you launch on your business, you’re clear about what you want in, and for, your life. Developing a Personal Vision is about clarifying what you want to be, have and do – in both a general sense and in a day-to-day sense. Having discussed what might go into your Personal Vision, you’ll then prepare your own Personal Vision Statement, which will, in a very real way, guide the form, shape and evolution of how you work from home on line, your Internet business, and your role within it. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Personal Vision Statement. Session 2: Niche Market and Business ModelNow that you know what you want your life to look like, and what kinds of home based internet businesses will satisfy that vision. Your aim is to find a lucrative market that matches your passions and strengths. So in this session you’ll discover the essential attributes of an attractive niche market on the Internet, and how to thoroughly research it. Then you’ll learn how to research the market to uncover a “niche” that you can focus your business, product and services on. You’ll then learn the main business models you can implement on the Internet – retailing (“etailing”), selling physical services, selling digital services, information marketing, content publishing / advertising model (including running Adsense ads), affiliate marketing – and determine which business model is best for you. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Business Model. Session 3: Business Structure and StrategyIn Session 3, you’ll develop both a structure and overall strategy for your business – your legal entity and operational structure and your plan for building your Internet business. You’ll prepare a business plan for your business – but not some abstract document; a solid plan that distills the major strategic objectives of your business that you can refer back to and refine as you build your business. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Business Plan. Session 4: Marketing StrategyIn this Session you’ll develop your marketing strategy, which you’ll output into a detailed Marketing Plan. You’ll discover the elements of marketing online: generating traffic, converting it into opt-in subscribers to a mailing list (“optins”) and customers, satisfying customers, and retaining customers by getting them to buy more and more often from you. You’ll go into some detail, identifying all the various tactics available to you underneath each of these four aspects of marketing, concluding with a list of initial steps for you to take in your business. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Marketing Plan. Session 5: Financial StrategySession 5 covers your financial strategy: from setting specific financial objectives, to preparing best, worst and intermediate case financial forecasts, to identifying the key financial metrics you’ll need to monitor the health of your business, to understanding the principles of small business accounting and finance, to what kinds of tools (such as software) you’ll need to track your sales, costs, profits, cash flow and other key financial data. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Financial Forecast. Session 6: Business Operations StrategyIn Session 6, you’ll discover the key that will separate your business from the over-90% of businesses (and probably a greater percentage of home based internet businesses) that fail. You’ll learn how to automate and leverage your business through establishing systems. You’ll begin preparing your Business Operations Manual, which will lay out all the systems needed to operate your business. Yes, this applies even if you’re a “one-person band” – in fact it’s the key reason why you’ll survive and thrive as a one-person band without working excessive hours, doing everything yourself. We’ll discuss the need to continuously improve your systems via innovation, testing and tracking in each area of your business and identify the key metrics for measuring improvement in these areas. You’ll also develop a process for innovation, testing and tracking on an ongoing basis. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Business Operations Manual. Session 7: Product and Service DevelopmentIn Session 7, you’ll understand how to approach business and product development in your Internet business. You’ll develop a sound methodology for identifying the wants of those within your niche market, researching and clarifying such wants further, exploring different solutions to offer the niche, determining which product or service to deliver based on the niche’s wants, competitive offerings, and your own strengths and advantages, and create a plan and timeline for development, identifying what to do yourself and what to outsource. Optional Assignment: Prepare your Product Development Flowchart. Session 8: Establishing a Web PresenceA key element of your Internet business is your website. In this session, you’ll learn how to get a presence on the web and the functionality you’ll need to do business via your website. You’ll begin by selecting and registering a domain name and arranging for website hosting. You’ll then learn about your main options for selling products online, including getting a shopping cart solution and credit card / payment processor, and the pros and cons of each. We’ll also discuss your options when it comes to developing, managing and communicating to your email mailing list. And finally we’ll look at fulfillment/delivery options if you’re planning to sell physical goods. Optional Assignment: Choose vendors for domain registration, web hosting, email automation, shopping cart and payment processing. Session 9: Website DesignIn this session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of designing an appropriate website for your business. You’ll learn the different kinds of website for different kinds of businesses and business objectives, and a methodology for determining the content, layout and functionality of your website. You’ll then determine whether it’s best outsource all or some of your website design to an expert or do it yourself. Optional Assignment: Prepare your website development strategy. Session 10: Partnering, Joint Venturing and OutsourcingWe conclude this course by looking out how you can grow your business and enjoy your business more by partnering with others, using various kinds of joint ventures – from “affiliate programs” and marketing joint ventures to product and business development joint ventures – and outsourcing parts of the work in your business to others. Optional Assignment: Prepare your strategy for partnering, JVs and outsourcing.
